Google Acquires Zillow and Trulia for $4.4 Billion

April 1, 2008 – 7:03 am

This morning, Google announced their recent acquisition of both Zillow and Trulia for $4.4 Billion. The terms were $2 billion in cash and the remaining in Google stock options. I had the opportunity to interview Eric Schmidt, Google’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer on the Google Plane.

The Google Plane has been a place for business ideas and brainstorming. “This is where all of our ideas develop. The higher you are, the more creative you can get.” said Eric.

I asked Eric why he decided to buy Zillow and Trulia together. “We have been banging our heads against the wall trying to figure out how to increase our personal Zestimate as well as develop a monopoly in real estate Q and A. This acquisition will allow us to do both.”

Zillow.com offer users the ability to see the valuation of their home which is called a Zestimate and both Zillow and Trulia allow users to ask questions which are then answered many times by multiple agents.

“While Larry, Sergey and I were flying over my mansion, I said to them. ‘Zillow thinks my house is only worth $3.4 million. Let’s buy them and make my house worth more.’”

When asked how the Q and A would be integrated into Google, Eric said, “I think it is fantastic that one question could be answered by multiple people, saying the same thing. This will dramatically add to our index and allow us to monetize more webpages.”

All in all, this major acquisition of both Zillow and Trulia will push Google to the next level in real estate.

As Google continues to dominate the real estate on Earth, rumor has it their next challenge is dominating the real estate on the Moon.Update:

This was an April Fools JokeĀ
