Compete.com Gets Acquired for $150 Million

March 3, 2008 – 2:01 pm

Compete, the site that we use a lot to show traffic for a lot of the rental sites, has been acquired by London base TNS for $75 million and will have another $75 million as a potential earnout.

TechCrunch reports that Compete did $15 million in revenue for 2007 but lost $4.5 million.  If the entire earnout is earned, TNS would have acquired Compete.com for 10 times 2007 revenue.

  3. Compete has been around for about 7 years. They have raised $43 million since 2000.

$15 million in 7 years is a great success. They were burning through about 400K per month on salaries and everything else and I think they thought this was a great time to sell.

Their other competitor ComScore has a market cap of $570 million.

If revenues continue to climb at 50% year over year, this will turn out to be a great buy for TNS.
