Google Executive Leaves Google For Facebook

March 4, 2008 – 1:23 pm

Friend Sheryl Sandberg who was VP of Operations and Sales at Google and who started the Google Adwords program, has left Google to be the COO of FaceBook.

From the New York Times:

…Ms Sandberg said in an interview that Facebook’s challenges of expanding its operations, revenue and international reach “are ones I’m particularly excited to work on.” She said she was motivated by Facebook’s “opportunity to use the power of the Internet to change how people interact with each other” and by Mr. Zuckerberg and his vision for the company.

…Prior to joining Google as one of its first 300 employees in November 2001, Ms. Sandberg served as the chief of staff for the U.S. Treasury Department, a management consultant for McKinsey & Co. and an economist at the World Bank. A mother of two children, Ms. Sandberg is among the more prominent female executives in Silicon Valley.

While working with Sheryl at Google, she was instrumental in the generation of 99% of the revenue that Google receives from AdWords.  Sheryl is going to do the same for FaceBook. Don’t short this stock when they IPO.
