Our Goal: Raise $10,000 for Shakepoverty from 100 Companies in 100 Days
September 9, 2010 – 3:59 pmI have had the privilege to have met an extraordinary young Entrepreneur. His name is Farooq Busari and I met him while teaching an entrepreneur class at Ohio Wesleyan University (OWU) in late 2009. He came to me with an idea that I immediately thought could literally change the World. He said, “Poverty can be ended not by a handful of people but with millions of handshakes.” He then set out a goal to shake hands with each of the 1850 students on OWU campus; shake their hand, and photograph each handshake. Farooq’s mission was to unite his entire campus by inspiring each student to support the Millennium Development Goals to eradicate poverty by 2025. His video is below:
Soon after, Shakepoverty launched as a non-profit with a mission to shake poverty from the world by supporting the Millennium Promise and its flagship initiative the Millennium Village Project. I am now a proud member of the board of directors and am looking forward to positively affecting the lives of the less fortunate. We have set a goal of raising $10K from 100 companies in 100 days. We are calling it the PayitForward campaign. We are getting 3 companies to donate $100 each. In return, they get two more companies to donate $100 each, and those two companies get two more, and so on. If you are interested in donating, please email me directly at dan @ rentbits.com or donate directly on the Shakepoverty.com website.
I would like to personally thank the first 3 companies that have donated their money and time to support such a great cause.
