Pat Kitano on the Active Rain Fiasco
October 1, 2007 – 3:32 pmPat Kitano of transparentre a blog on the transparency of real estate wrote a great article Entitled “What Active Rain should do Now.”
Active Rain’s Challenges
1) AR owns the bloggers, who owns the content?
2) Developing the proforma revenue model
3) AR needs to augment their relatively puny consumer traffic
4) Management
5) Competition
What Active Rain should do point by point:
1) AR owns the bloggers.
2) Although the business model needs a rework, AR is in the position to fix it “on the job”.
3) The strategic plan must include a path - content network, data delivery, innovative content exposure, viral marketing campaigns, partnerships
4) Management is at a flash point
5) The lawsuit makes AR look vulnerable, and competitors will now try to carve away AR’s bloggers one-by-one

Wow, Dan you are cranking out the posts on this new blog!
I alway thought real estate agents that used active rain were a bit silly giving all their content to someone else!

Thanks Dave. It is true, many of the large bloggers know their content is the most valuable content and driving traffic to another source like activerain doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. This may make more sense if and when active rain becomes a larger consumer destination but I don’t see that happening for a while unless an acquisition takes place by a large B2C company,
