Google just released Google Insights for Search and it allows users to compare search volume patterns across specific regions, categories, and time frames.

I compared Apartments for Rent and Houses for rent and here is what I found:

  1. There is a cyclical nature to rental search.
  2. Florida has the highest concentration of renters searching with these words
  3. Top searches related to “Apartments for rent”
    1. apartment for rent
    2. apartment
    3. houses for rent
    4. homes for rent
    5. apartments for sale
  4. Top searches related to “Houses for rent”
    1. homes for rent
    2. homes
    3. apartments
    4. apartments for rent
    5. rental houses
  5. In regard to growth related to the real estate category, “houses for rent” far exceeds apartments for rent and the real estate category in terms of percentage growth of searches.

  2. Good write up. I was playing with it too this morning.

    One thing that I have learned in the past 6 months is sometimes the top search phrases are not the top converting terms, so you must be careful when optimizing your site.
